I have been a member of the Brisbane German Language School for almost 20 years, first as the mother of twins attending the youth classes and then from 2007 as a teacher and for many years as adult classes coordinator. For a few years now I have been learning Italian, my fifth language, and I enjoy being a student again. It also makes me more appreciative of all the time and effort our courageous students here at BGLS put into learning a foreign language. |

I was born and raised in a little town close to Austria’s capital Vienna. Coming from a family with many teachers it was quite clear what profession I would take up as an adult. I finished my Bachelor of Education in 2011 and have since been teaching German as a second language to adults, teenagers and children from several different countries in Austria and at the German School in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, before moving to Australia in 2017. I always strive to create lessons that are stimulating and fun, so students enjoy reaching their individual language goals. In my spare time I love being outdoors, teaching yoga and playing the guitar. |

I grew up in Braunschweig (Brunswick) near Hannover, where – people say – the most accent-free German is spoken. Here, I went to school and university. Working as an Environmental Scientist brought me to Brisbane in 2006, where groundwater specialists were in demand to support the then booming mining industry. I have been studying French at school and understand very well how challenging it can be to learn a foreign language. It is always easier to learn something when the topic is interesting and fun. Therefore, I believe that a stimulating and enjoyable learning environment is the important basis to nourish a student’s success. I started teaching at the Brisbane German Language School in 2024 and enjoy sharing my language and culture with the students. In my spare time, I enjoy bush and beach walking, riding my bicycle, visiting the local markets as well as gardening.

I am a native German speaker from Landshut which is a very pretty medieval town near Munich in Bavaria. I first came to Australia in 1988 on work experience at the Supreme Court and met my German born husband. The EXPO 88 happening in Brisbane made it an exceptionally, unforgetful visit at the time! So, I came back to Brisbane in 1989 to stay and started teaching German in state schools in 1992. I taught German for over 30 years in all school systems, state, private and religious affiliation, mainly in high schools but also for 13 years as primary LOTE (Languages other than English) teacher when my two children were younger. We lived in the Brisbane area for almost 30 years, but moved to the Gold Coast at the end of 2020. We absolutely love living so close to the beach. I am also qualified to teach ESL (English as a second language) which I taught at Can Tho University in Vietnam. Travelling and meeting new people is definitely my favourite pastime. I retired from permanent teaching at the end of 2023 but felt that I would miss teaching my native language as well as culture and therefore was very happy to join the team at BGLS.

I am a native German speaker and was born and raised in a small town near Dortmund. I studied Primary and Elementary Education at the University of Erfurt, where I discovered my love for teaching. Since relocating to Australia in 2021, I have primarily worked in the childcare sector and very much enjoy working with the different age groups. After a few years in Toowoomba, my Australian husband and I decided it was time to change the country life for coastal life, as we now live in the Redland Bay Area.

I grew up in a German speaking family , with siblings and parents from Bremen , in Northern Germany , thus written and spoken German came naturally to me .
My best grades in High school were German & English. I lived and worked in Bremen for over 5 years as a Registered Nurse /Midwife and thus gained a deeper understanding of German Culture . I taught English medical terminology 1x a week to nursing colleagues in Germany and here in Australia have always enjoyed preceptorship of new colleagues and teaching on an ad hoc basis. I am fluent in German and read widely in German and of course keep up to date with events in Germany via Der Spiegel online and emails & chats with friends in Germany. I live on the Gold Coast with 3x Chihuahua X rescue dogs and am passionate about animal welfare , having volunteered with Wildcare , AWLQ & Bats Australia.

A native German speaker from birth in Vienna, Austria, I grew up in New Zealand but spent a long time living in Europe, notably 6 years in Austria.
Having spent many years travelling the world as a professional musician I moved to Brisbane at the beginning of 2025 and am very much enjoying the warm climate!
Am delighted to be a part of the BGLS as I have always enjoyed teaching whether it be language, music or sports, and it is always a rewarding experience to watch and guide the learning process.
In my spare time I enjoy getting out into nature, cooking, reading, and tending to the garden.

Hi, I grew up in Brisbane and my interest in German started at high school. I moved to Berlin, Germany in 2010 for language immersion and a working holiday which just kept getting longer and longer, eventually taking us to Zürich in Switzerland and in 2025 finally back to Brisbane! I honed my German with immersive language training in small classes, and then by jumping into the deep end working in German as a landscape architect (my original profession) from 2011 to 2025. My two sons were born in Berlin and Zürich and while they were babies and toddlers I worked as a translator and interpreter. In my spare time I enjoy hiking, bike touring and reading. I love the window into another world that the German language has given me and my family, and look forward to sharing this enthusiasm with youth classes at the BGLS.

Hi, my name is Dalena. I spent most of my childhood growing up in Schorndorf, a small town in Baden Württemberg, Germany, and later moved between Germany and Australia. This has given me a strong understanding of both the language and culture, and I’m excited to share this knowledge at BGLS. The majority of my career has been spent working in schools with students across a wide range of age groups and abilities. I truly enjoy teaching and supporting students in their learning and am passionate about fostering a love for languages—something close to my heart as a multilingual speaker. A little fun fact about me: there is always room for cake. 🍰
